Faizal Prio Utomo stamps Adnan Maulana in 2012 Pertamina Open Badminton Championships
Faizal Prio Utomo of Indonesia remained invincible in the third round of Pertamina Open Badminton Championships and marched into the fourth round on December 11, 2012.
He locked horn with a compatriot shuttler Adnan Maulana and finished this tussle with a favourable result of 21-18 and 21-10.
This splendid straight-set victory setup his next clash with another Indonesian player Virgiansyah Yogi.
Faizal, who was placed at 15th spot in this tournament ranking, earned great deal of admiration for showing an elevated craft on the court.
He set foundation of his supremacy from very stroke and maintained that upper hand until last shot was played.
He launched a brisk attack and claimed many valuable points without any major trouble.
Next couple of rallies saw him employing interesting tactics as at first he kept a low profile and then confounded his challenger with a staggering knock.
Adnan looked completely confused as he could not read his rival?s game and kept trailing behind until figure of 11 before the half time.
After the one-minute break, he showed some spark and narrowed the gap with few consecutive points.
He maintained that rhythm until third quarter of the set and it was felt that the lower ranked Indonesian shuttler will deliver a stunner in the opening game.
However, lack of experience hit him hard as Faizal showed maturity in his craft and tipped the scale in his favour.
He kept Adnan busy just in returning his well placed strokes and bagged this opening match point with 21-18 margin.
In the following game, he did not give his competitor even a single chance to proceed and sent him packing with a staggering knock.
This time Faizal played fast badminton and ruled the court throughout second set which proved the decider later.
He made his intentions clear by prevailing in the establishing rallies and got into commanding position with a total of 11.
Adnan strived hard to come out of this deficit but he could not hit the mark until game point situation.
He made some fatal mistakes in crucial moments and allowed Faizal to wrap this showdown with 21-10 score on the board.
