Safety Tips on Fishing

It does not matter whether you are fishing at a lake close to home or on a long distance trip, you should always keep in mind the few safety measures that will help you stay safe, out of danger and make your fishing rendezvous a good and enjoyable one. When we say fishing safety, we mean more than just being safe on the water. Dangers in fishing can come from equipments, when you are fishing from the pier, from offshore, while you are ice fishing as well as noodling and fishing from the shore. Now that we have caught your attention, let us dig deeper.

Before you leave home for a fishing trip, it is mandatory to check that all your fishing gears re in a proper working order. Thoroughly check your rods, reels and lines and lures and hooks.

Make sure to discard very old and rusted hooks and lures; these could give you infections or tetanus. Be extra cautious while handling those dangerously sharp hooks. When you are removing the hook from a fish, make sure not to hold too close to where the hook is, if the fish wriggles the wrong way, you could hurt yourself badly. If you have children accompanying you in the fishing trip, keep an eye on them.

Fishing in the deep waters of the ocean or the sea is very exhilarating but keep in mind it is equally risky. No matter how uncomfortable or ugly it is, it is absolutely crucial to wear a life jacket. The weather might just get worse over time while you are out on the sea on a big boat, take adequate measures in this regard. Battling for hours with a huge catch is not everybody?s cup of tea. It is better to have a fishing guide with you for expert advice. While casting, make sure that you do not hurt anybody with the hooks and keep a first aid box handy.

If you are fishing from the shore it is comparatively safe but nonetheless there are certain dangers associated with it as well. Avoid taking children along while you are going fishing in the peak season. Be aware of the people around you and the flying lures and tangled lines. Noodling for catfish is not at all a good idea. Many risk their lives with this extreme sport. Be safe and try not to do something this silly. Try fishing with a rod and reel, it is more fun and challenging that way.

Ice fishing is another very exciting but dangerous way to fish. Remember to go fishing fully prepared to deal with the freezing temperature and its baggage. You could fall seriously sick if you are not properly dressed for the cold. Be updated with the weather predictions and ice conditions. You would not want to fall trough the ice or get caught in a blizzard. Make sure that there is an ice shack where you have enough wood for the wood stove or some other heating device but keep an eye on it so that it does not burn down!

Abiding by these safe fishing tips you can have a better fishing experience as it is safe and sensible. Till then, tight lines!
